We Demand That LGBT+ Labour Release Their Constitution

LGBT+ Labour must stop hiding. We demand to see their constitution immediately

On Friday, LGBT+ Labour indefinitely postponed their Annual General Meeting just days after a pro-trans slate of candidates backed by Pride in Labour launched. Their justification? Legal "uncertainty." But that excuse doesn't hold up - because the committee refuses to provide access to the constitution. Members, candidates, and stakeholders are being denied access to the document that governs how elections work, who has authority, and how decisions are made. It's not just suspicious, but it is also fundamentally undemocratic.

Why this matters:
  • The constitution is the rulebook. No election or decision can be held in good faith if members cannot see it.

  • Without access to it, members cannot challenge decisions, propose amendments, or even understand what rights they're entitled to.

  • Withholding it creates a culture of secrecy, not democracy.

SUBJECT: Request for immediate access to the constitution

Dear LGBT+ Labour,

As an [Labour member/LGBT+ Labour member/ally of the LGBTQ+ community], I am deeply concerned by your recent decision to postpone the Annual General Meeting and the ongoing lack of transparency within the organisation.

I am writing to formally request access to the current constitution of LGBT+ Labour. You are constitutionally required to provide a copy of the document to members of LGBT+ Labour.

This document is essential for ensuring democratic accountability and transparency. As a member-led affiliate of the Labour Party, you have a duty to make this information public available to those who seek to engage with your work in good faith.

I look forward to your urgent response.

Yours sincerely,

[Your name]
