About us
Pride in Labour was established in July 2024 in protest of Wes Streeting's harmful ban on puberty blockers. Since then, we have continued to call out transphobia within the Labour Party and will always challenge national and local politicians to do better.
Our story
Pride in Labour is a grassroots movement that exists to amplify the voices and needs of the LGBTQIA+ community within the United Kingdom. We are dedicated to creating a society where LGBTQIA+ people are not only heard, but are also respected, celebrated, and empowered.
We believe in politics that prioritises equality, justice, and inclusion. Our mission is to challenge discrimination and fight for the rights of LGBTQIA+ people at every level, nationally and locally. At Pride in Labour, we stand against the politics of division and optics. We do not believe in compromise when it comes to human rights.
We are committed to:
-
Championing equality: Fighting for policies that protect and uplift LGBTQIA+ individuals, especially those who face the most marginalisation.
-
Creating space for all voices: Ensuring that every person in the LGBTQIA+ community, regardless of identity or experience, has a seat at the table.
-
Building solidarity: Working alongside allies and communities to build a broad coalition for change.
-
Holding power accountable: We will hold political leaders accountable for their actions and ensure they act in the best interests of LGBTQIA+ people.
Pride in Labour is a movement for progress. A movement for the future. A movement for equality. Together, we rise. Together, we fight. Together, we win.
SOME OF OUR WORK
Our positions
Puberty blockers
We believe that the government must lift the ban on puberty blockers immediately. The decision was based on a flawed review conducted without adequate representation from trans people.
Transphobia
In September 2024, Pride in Labour spoke out against Cllr. Laurie Burton (Labour) and his deeply transphobic remarks. We also stated that there is an issue with transphobia within the Labour Party.
The Supreme Court
Following the Supreme Court ruling, Pride in Labour spoke out. The ruling is a direct threat from the state to the safety, dignity, and equality of the trans community in the United Kingdom.
