In light of the recent Puberty Blocker Ban announcement we at Pride in Labour obviously want to push back any way we can.
However, given our limited influence in the party, the media and within the membership this may be very difficult to do. I suggest our role in a situation like this is to agitate to increase our influence and push organisations with influence to do something.
I am perfectly happy to take suggestions for what we should do and criticisms of the approach I've suggested.
Speak to the Welsh/Scottish Governments (especially Wales as it is a Labour Gov) to try and dissuade them making the same decision.
I personally know a few WG ministers and I can try to get a meeting with them.
The puberty blocker ban is a decision taken by Wes Streeting based on the highly tendentious and much criticised Cass report. Why has he not first launched a proper consultation with the trans community and their allies? For every trans young person there are a set of parents and friends. For every trans individual there are partners, relatives and friends who are observing the impact of the onslaught against trans rights that began under the Tories. Why has Streeting not taken into account the impact that this is already having on young trans people and the entire trans community? I feel we must do more than "push back" .. Can Pride in Labour ask for a meeting with Streeting? SHould we be bringing resolutions to our branches? Should we not be making our voices heard publicly in defence of the community?
