The Pride in Labour Executive Committee convened this evening to discuss reports that the Labour Party is shelving its plans to make the Gender Recognition process more accessible for the Trans community. We would like to make it clear that the current process is out of date and dehumanising and that reforms to Gender Recognition are necessary.
The Labour Party must clarify their position and commit to its manifesto pledge of removing indignities for trans people, including meaningful reforms to the Gender Recognition Act. Rolling back on this commitment will not only be a betrayal of the LGBTQ+ community but also a failure to uphold the mandate of the British people at the 2024 general election.
